What I Believe & What I Want

I cherish my identity as a member of the global African Diaspora, as the daughter of Jamaican immigrants, as a Caribbean American, and as a Black American.

I believe that migrant rights and racial justice are indivisible.

I will work to create transformational solidarity between Black immigrants and Black Americans, as has been reflected in our shared history in the Americas.

I believe in full reparations for all descendants of enslaved Black people around the world.

I believe in the right to migrate—the right to move—as a form of reparations, particularly for people living in the Caribbean who bear the brunt of man-made climate disasters.

I believe in Black queer feminist and womanist theory and practice, and in the praxis of decolonization.

I believe in all people’s inherent bodily autonomy, right to an accessible world, and right to reproductive justice.

I believe in prison, jail, and immigration detention center abolition.

I learn from the wisdom embedded in the Afro-futurist and speculative fiction writing of authors like Octavia Butler, adrienne maree brown, Nalo Hopkinson, N.K. Jemisin, Tananarive Due, and many more.

I want to see the full liberation of Black people in my lifetime.

I want to live in a world in which LGBTQI+ and gender-expansive people are not just safe, but honored.

I aspire to use my gifts to engineer collective change in my community.
